The Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail (the AT) is a hiking trail in the eastern United States. The majority of the trail is in forest or wild lands, although some portions run through towns, roads and farms. It is claimed  that the Appalachian Trail is the longest hiking-only trail in the world. Some people try to walk the entire 2,174 mile trail over several months. Others simply enjoy day-trips to parts of the AT.

Throughout its length, the AT is marked by white paint blazes that follow each other at certain  distances and mark the direction of the trail.

Advice: read the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Fahrenheit 451 is a novel by Ray Bradbury published in 1953. It is regarded as one of his best works. The novel presents a future American society where books are outlawed and "firemen" burn any that are found. The title refers to the temperature that Bradbury thought to be the temperature when paper starts burning by itself (In reality, scientists place the autoignition temperature of paper anywhere from high 440 degrees Fahrenheit to some 30 degrees hotter, depending on the study and type of paper).

Adventure sports have become increasingly popular since the 1990s, with a wide range of sports taking place in the water, on land and in the air. My Hobby

Plan:
  • What's your hobby?
  • What does it involve?
  • How much time do you spend on it?
  • Does it need any special equipment?
  • Why are you interested in it?

Example Answers:
Underwater Photography
My hobby is underwater photography. It involves scuba diving to take photographs of marine life. I practise my hobby almost every weekend. I always go with friends. I have lots of equipment. I have my own scuba diving gear and two underwater cameras and one underwater video recorder. I am interested in scuba diving because it's really exciting to look at different underwater plants and sea creatures.

Stamp Collecting
My hobby is stamp collecting. It involves asking my family and friends to save stamps for me from their mail or buying stamps. I practise my hobby almost every day. I do it on my own. I don't have much equipment: an album, a magnifying glass and stamp tongs (щипцы).  I am interested in stamp collecting because it's really exciting to look at different stamps and study them.
